Our Nation's Crumbling Infrastructure: What We Need
To Do!
By Stan Tuttu.
It is time for us to examine the needs
for our country as the millennium sets in. We’ve
seen wonderful advances in computer technology, space
exploration, cell phones and high definition TV, but
the decrepit state of our nation’s infrastructure
is a ticking bomb that is threatening our national
well being and is something we can ignore no longer.
Our Nation’s water-supply networks, transportation
system, electric-nuclear power networks and the like
have been getting by and serving us well for years,
but it isn’t easy to look at these days. If
our country is to continue being the leader of the
free world, we must return our nation to a newer,
decretive and eye catching state of elegance;
We must have it Wall-Papered by experts.
I would suggest “Decorators Best,”
which features the best decorating fabrics and wallpapers
at discount prices.
Behold these exsquisit examples I have prepared:

Stage Coach Plaid – Indigo
(Ralph Lauren) Wallpaper on the Mackinaw Bridge.
|
Stage
Coach Plaid – Indigo (Ralph Lauren) at
$29.75 would look absolutely darling on the Mackinaw
Bridge.
This design passionately recapture's the
former glory of Rome, when the mythology of the admired
Greeks and Romans represented something more than gay
and pretty fairy-tales. These were the days when classical
legends contained profound and mysterious truths. It
is only now that the classical myths become popular
among the laymen. Drink, yes, drink my friends..
Quench thine thirst! |
Yates Plaid – Brown (Ralph
Lauren) Wallpaper on the Golden Gate Bridge.
|
Yates
Plaid – Brown
(Ralph Lauren) $27.50 would add a touch of
class to the Golden Gate Bridge. On a foggy
morning it could represent Venus rising from the sea.
Her birth is the symbol of mystery through which a divine
message of beauty comes into the world.
The action of this coupeling is quickly
understood by all. Venus has emerged from the sea on
a shell which is driven to the shore by flying wind-gods
amidst a shower of roses. As she is about to step on
to the land, one of the Nymphs receives her with a plaid
brown cloak.
Ahh, a feast for the eyes! |
Picnic Basket Plaid – Pink
(Ralph Lauren) Wallpaper on the Hoover Damn.
|
Picnic
Basket Plaid – Pink (Ralph
Lauren) $26.50 would look fabulous on the Hoover Damn.
Here we absorb the graceful movements and melodious
lines recalling the Gothic tradition of Ghiberti and
Fra Angelico, perhaps even the art of the fourteenth
century works such as Simone Martini's 'Annunciation'.
The monolith is so beautiful that we do not notice the
unnatural width of her groin, the steep fall of her
bosom, or the queer way her shoulders are hinged to
the rock. We have achieved a graceful outline
that adds to the beauty and harmony of the design because
the plaid enhances the impression of an infinitely tender
and delicate being, wafted to the earth as a gift from
Heaven.
Simply Fabulous! |

Of course
my expert opinion won’t be agreed with by everyone,
but we must agree on designs soon, before our despicable
infrastructure reaches a point of no return.
Let’s look again at the San Francisco Bay Bridge,
truly a wonder of human ingenuity. It was opened in
1936, Its construction required 50 million man-hours,
one million cubic yards of concrete, 71,000 miles
of cable, 200,000 tons of steel and lastly over 3.2
million gallons of paint. Each year the structure
is subject to hundreds of millions of cars passing
over it’s expanse, along with pollution in the
air, making it’s once pristine face dirty and
flaking, leaving it a decrepit monolith of trailer
trash despair.
Take our interstate highway system. Beginning
with the signing of the Interstate Highway Act in
the 1950s, the DOT intended the roads to be regarded
and resurfaced every 12 years. So guess what? While
traffic, vehicle weight and accidents increase each
year; maintenance schedules have been reduced because
of waning budgets. So now we face a loss of 9 to 11
percent of structural strength along with 7 percent
of surface to auto erosion each year! The yellow passing
zones are peeling and the safety lines are crumbling.
What happened to the safe and clean not to mention
visually crisp roads our engineers once envisioned?
Neglect!
People hardly take notice anymore when
they turn the news on to hear once more of our railroads,
damns, bridges, roads, factories, etc, collapsing
and exploding around us. We must put an end to this
now, WALLPAPER!
Lets return our nation to the grandeur
of the past when things were new and fresh!
You may be one of the party poopers that claim we
can’t afford the cost of materials and wages
for skilled décor specialists to get the job
done, or that we don’t have enough wallpaper..
but I tell you,
WE CAN’T AFFORD NOT TO AFFORD WHAT WE CAN’T
AFFORD! |

The
time to invest is NOW!
The time is now to invest
in Waverly, Ralph Lauren, Clarence House or any of
the other fine manufacturers of Wallpapers we have
in this country. Our infrastructure doesn’t
have to be doomed; we have the ability to re beautify
it for many generations to come.. our children and
our children’s children are depending on us!
Despite the ravages of time, we will do
what we can to insure that we at least LOOK like the
greatest nation on earth. We are capable.. We are
– FABULOUS AMERICANS.
