COPPER FIRE BRICK

These firebricks are from the smelter for the Calumet & Hecla Mining Company in Hubbell, MI. The smelter was built in 1885 and operated until 1968. The firebrick absorbed the molten copper when the smelter was charged. All these specimens have cut base so they are free-standing and are coated with a polyurethane based epoxy to give it a "wet" look.
